I stumbled upon this little gem looking for something else that was found in the preceding article--this was actually more interesting:
C.-M. Goulier (1818-1891),"Niveau a collimateur et son emploi comme horizon de brume", in Comptes Rendus, Paris, volume 78, 20 April 1874, occupying pp1098-1099 in the issue of pp (1073)-1168.
- followed by:
C.-M. Goulier, “Sur des cadrans orometriques applicables surtout aux barometres du pouche”, same issue, pp 1100-1102 (with small text illustration).
Charles Moise Goulier contributes this interesting pair of articles, the second relating to a pocket altimeter. The first dial indicates 60-79 millimeters of mercury in the barometer and 0-24 hectometers in the altitude range (7,874'); the second dial is 40-79 mm of mercury and 0-55 hectometers (18.044') altitude.
This is a weekly issue from the Comptes Rendus, removed/extracted from a larger bound volume. A touch of damp staining here and there, otherwise this is a nice copy, on heavy paper, and crisp. $75
Note: the lighting on this page is uneven and so cast some shadows-these do not exist in the original.
